The Ansenuza National Park was created in the province of Córdoba

The protected area covers 661,416 hectares that include the Laguna de Mar Chiquita or Mar de Ansenuza: the largest salt lake in South America and the fifth largest in the world.

The National Congress approved the bill for the creation of the Ansenuza National Park, thus becoming number 41 under this category and the third in the province of Córdoba. In this way, the creation and expansion of protected areas advances, promoted by the Ministry of Environment of the Nation and the Administration of National Parks (APN).

The new protected area, which covers a total of 661,416 hectares, includes the Laguna de Mar Chiquita or Mar de Ansenuza, which is the largest salt lake in South America and the fifth largest in the world. Together with the Bañados del Río Dulce, they make up a huge wetland, which is considered a fundamental space for the conservation of biodiversity and is part of the list of Ramsar Sites, made up of those wetlands of international importance.

The Ansenuza National Park is home to 66% of all migratory and shorebird species recorded in Argentina, while it concentrates almost 36% of the country's total avifauna and 85% of the 447 species of birds cited for the province of Cordoba. This makes it one of the most important sites for the conservation of birds from the Center of the country and migratory species from South America, which congregate in numbers of up to half a million individuals each year.

Among the species that make up the vegetation of the place, you can find everything from large carob trees and quebrachos to espartillares, rushes and cattails, passing through transitional halophytic shrubs and thickets.

The creation of this new National Park, in coordination with the work of the environmental portfolio, National Parks, the province of Córdoba, Aves Argentinas, Fundación Wyss and Natura Argentina, will also contribute to the comprehensive and economic tourism development of the area and all its population.
